Novelista, dramaturgo y periodista británico. En su juventud se ganó la vida ejerciendo todo tipo de trabajos inusuales, sirvió en el ejército y se desempeñó como reportero antes de producir su primer éxito, Los cuatro hombres justos (1905). Con obras como Sanders of the River [Areneros del río] (1911), El círculo carmesí (1922), The Flying Squad [El escuadrón volador] (1928) y El terror (1930), Wallace virtualmente inventó el "thriller moderno; sus historias detectivescas y de suspenso tienen tramas complejas, pero claramente desarrolladas, y son conocidas por sus vibrantes finales. Su producción (que incluye 175 libros), fue prodigiosa y su ritmo de trabajo tan impresionante que dio lugar a comentarios humorísticos. Su reputación literaria ha decaído después de su muerte.
